Sendai Tsunami Affects Hawaii Tourism

Damages caused by the tsunami generated by the earthquake off-shore of Sendai Japan(1) is likely to exceed $30 million according to a Hawaii disaster response official.

Currently Hawaii tourism officials are reporting cancellations in the 30% to 50% range due to concerns about the damages(2) and fears that the currently volatile situation at the Fukushima nuclear power generating station(3) will release atmospheric radiation that will reach Hawaii. Though there are assurances that there is little chance that any significant amount of radiation would reach Hawaii(4)(5)
